Tesla’s Thruster-Powered Roadster: Spectacle Meets Unanswered Questions
Tesla’s dramatic Roadster demo raises open questions about production timing, road legality, and practical value.

Tesla’s latest Roadster showcase leans into spectacle: cold-gas thrusters, dramatic maneuvers, and the promise of an unconventional performance car. The presentation impressed the hosts, but it also left basic product questions unresolved.
Production is slated for 2028, while some reservation holders have already waited years. Final pricing, delivery timing, and the configuration of the thruster-equipped model remain uncertain. The discussion separates an impressive demonstration from a vehicle customers can actually buy and use.
On a track, extreme downforce and performance could give the car a distinctive purpose. On public roads, the thrusters appear far less practical and raise safety and regulatory concerns. A genuine flying-car use case remains distant from the brief demonstrations shown.
The contrast with the Mission S captures two competing ideas of the sports car: futuristic spectacle versus a return to traditional design cues. The key test will be whether Tesla turns the show into a road-legal product delivered on a credible schedule.
